About Baby Prep™

Founder, Owner and Educator

Kathleen Mochoruk

Registered Nurse
Childbirth Educator
Baby Prep™ Founder and Owner

My work as a maternity nurse for over 19 years at both St. Paul’s and BC Women’s Hospital in Vancouver, has given me the knowledge and experience to assist young families transition into parenthood. Expectant parents will be given the tools and confidence needed to welcome their newborn(s) into the world.

My career in nursing was inspired by my grandmother (“Baba”) who worked as a midwife. To carry on her legacy, I became a maternity nurse, childbirth educator and international board-certified lactation consultant (IBCLC). With my experience and knowledge, I aim to make every Baby Prep™ client feel empowered and confident in her ability to give birth in whatever setting she chooses. Along with providing prenatal education, I also want to help new parents transition comfortably into the postpartum phase.

As the mother of two young children, I can also relate to the emotional and physical changes that occur before and after pregnancy. Being a mother has its challenges but it is my greatest joy in life.

Baby Prep™ has assisted many families in the exciting adventure of preparing for birth and we look forward to helping your family soon. We cannot wait to welcome you into the Baby Prep™ family!

Baby Prep™ Prenatal Class Instructor

Maternity nursing has been my passion since the beginning of my nursing career. Through my experience as a Labour and Delivery nurse, a prenatal teacher at BC Women’s Hospital and a Public Health nurse on the North Shore, I have had the privilege of working with families during all the phases of their childbearing experiences. Being with families through all stages of pregnancy from Labour and Delivery to postnatal up to the first days at home is a great honor. Teaching maternity nursing to students in various hospitals in the Lower Mainland for the last 15 years allows me the knowledge and expertise to provide current and reliable information regarding the childbearing process to families. As a Masters-prepared nurse, I have the background to deliver evidence-based information in an effective manner to you.

Families have access to a wide-range of resources today. My intent for teaching prenatal classes is to provide opportunities for individuals and families to access up to date information and better understand the childbearing process. In so doing, together we deconstruct what may seem unknown and somewhat fearsome into phases that we can manage with effective strategies and tools. Hence we gain confidence, the capacity to make informed decisions and actively participate in our individual birthing process.

Being a mother of a nine year old, I also bring with me my personal experience of giving birth and raising a child. I live with my husband and son in Cloverdale, BC. One of my favorite things to do is spend uninterrupted time with my family walking on a trail or on the beach!

Baby Prep™ Prenatal Class Instructor

The bulk of my work is in the forefront of labour and birth. I work full time as a Registered Nurse at St. Paul’s Hospital’s bustling maternity unit. It is a pleasure to be a part of one of the most momentous occasions a couple or family will face- the arrival of a their new baby! This is also a massive transition for most people, and preparation is key. This is where my interest in prenatal education lies. The confidence and initiative of those parents who choose to attend prenatal classes is evident in those first few days in hospital or at home. Helping women and their partners to start out informed and aware helps to minimize stress and is integral to their satisfaction with their birth experience. Education is power!

My approach as a prenatal educator is straightforward, honest, and relaxed. Your questions and curiosities are valued. The information I will provide is derived from recent evidence based studies as well as my experience and observations.

I am a world traveler and lover of nature. I am passionate about diversity and equality. I live in East Vancouver with my dog Piña.

Jessica Maxwell R.N., BScN, IBCLC

Baby Prep™ Lactation Consultant

While completing my Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing at The University of Ottawa, I quickly realized that I have a passion for women’s health and pediatrics. After moving to the west coast to continue my nursing career, I completed the BCIT Neonatal Intensive Care Course in order to work in the Neonatal Unit at St Paul’s Hospital. Watching the seasoned nurses assist and support mother’s during such a vulnerable and special time, inspired me to want to be part of this wonderful community. After giving birth to my first born in 2009, and having my own battles with breast feeding, my passion for lactation support was born.

My goal is to work in partnership with mothers and their babies to meet their feeding goals. Every family is unique and so are their feeding journeys. I hope to empower my clients by providing them evidence based information and support. I also hope to instill confidence in caring for their infants, specifically regarding their feeding choices.

My husband and I are blessed with three children and currently reside in East Vancouver.
